USAF Pedro 66 Memorial Poker Chip

USAF Pedro 66 / "In memory of our fallen brothers" / Saved by Pedro / That others may live / Combat Rescue Memorial Poker Chip
On June 9, 2010 a PaveHawk - HH60G going by the call sign "Pedro 66" was shot down in Afghanistan. This was a USAF rescue helicopter. The last words you hear from "Pedro" are, "I'm hit. We're going in." The other HELO watches as they crash , but all emotions need to be buried. All the training that you prepare for as a Rescue Team is no longer for an anonymous individual, it's for your brother in arms, your teammates, your family - it's now a personal mission.

Pedro 66 lost 5 of it's Team Members; Capt David Wisniewski and 1Lt Joel Gentz - (CRO - Combat Rescue Officer) of the 58th Rescue Squadron (RQS), SSgt David Smith of the 66th RQS, and TSgt Michael Flores and SrA Benjamin White - both PJs of the 48th RQS. This was the first time the Rescue community had lost a CRO - Lt Gentz in a combat mission.

Pedro 66 was conducting a casualty evacuation operation in southeastern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom - four of the members died in the crash, Capt Wisniewski died of from injuries he received in the accident almost a month later.

We remember Pedro 66 regularly - it was a devastating loss, to say the least, to the PJ and Rescue community. Their sacrifice is a true inspiration, they are true heroes and died living to their creed: "these things we do that others may live".

God Bless all the members that were lost that day, you will never be forgotten.

USAF AFRCC Subdued Patch

USAF Air Force Rescue Coordination Center Subdued Patch
As the United States' inland search and rescue (SAR) coordinator, the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) serves as the single agency responsible for coordinating on-land federal SAR activities in the United States, including Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
Located at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, the AFRCC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The center directly ties into the Federal Aviation Administration's alerting system and the United States Mission Control Center.
In addition to the Search and Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking information, the AFRCC computer system contains resource files that list federal and state organizations, which can conduct or assist in SAR efforts throughout North America. When a distress call is received, the center investigates the request, coordinates with federal, state, and local officials, and determines the type and scope of response necessary. Once verified as an actual distress situation, the AFRCC requests support from the appropriate federal SAR force. This may include Civil Air Patrol, United States Coast Guard, or other Department of Defense assets, as needed. State agencies can be contacted for state, local, or civil SAR resource assistance within their jurisdiction. The AFRCC chooses the rescue force based on availability and capability of forces, geographic location, terrain, weather conditions, and urgency of the situation.

USAF Jolly Green Footprint Patches

USAF Jolly Green Footprint / Air Rescue - Pararescue Tradition Patches
Matched pair of Jolly Green Feet. Custom Made. One of a kind pair! Each measures 2.5x4.5" in Green silk embroidery on with cotton with Green and gold wire. Embroidered borders on black wool-felt made cloth. Perfectly made and SUPER RARE!

Jolly Green Giant footprint patch given as souvenirs and worn on party suits. The green footprint has a long tradition with the PJ's. 5 toes on the foot denotes wear or distribution by an officer, 4 toes for NCO's & EM's.
"Let me tell the story of Jolly Green Giant footprints. Although we did not have a squadron patch, we did and do have a trademark signature (big green footprints). Started in the mid 60's when two young PJs, of the 37th, drank too much and went downtown Danang and had green foot prints tattooed on their asses. From then till today this became our trademark signature. Green feet have been painted on the most dangerous places you can think of. Hugh buildings, halfway down water towers, all Officer & NCO clubs we visited, marine barracks and many other places. During the Medal of Honor presentation at Wright-Patterson AFB two huge green footprints showed up half way down the base water tower across from the AF museum. Sometime during our reunions several of the young active duty PJs will moon the crowd showing their green feet and asses. (Did not happen at W-P)". Randy Pikelseimer.
