USAF 23rd FG / Flying Tigers OCP Patch

USAF 23rd Fighter Group / Flying Tigers / "Attack-Rescue-Prevail" / Guardian Angel Weapon System / OCP color Patch.
Circa 2017

The 23d Fighter Group (23 FG) is a United States Air Force unit. It is assigned to the 23d Wing and stationed at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. The 23d Fighter Group was established in World War II as the 23d Pursuit Group of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). Redesignated the 23d Fighter Group before its activation, the group was formed in China on 4 July 1942, as a component of the China Air Task Force and received a small cadre of volunteer personnel from the simultaneously disbanded 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG) – the "Flying Tigers" of the Chinese Air Force.

To carry on the traditions and commemorate the history of the AVG, aircraft of the USAF 23d Fighter Group carry the same "Shark Teeth" nose art of the AVG's Curtiss P-40 Warhawks, along with the "FT" (Flying Tiger) tail code. The 23d Fighter Group's aircraft is the only United States Air Force aircraft currently authorized to carry this distinctive and historical aircraft marking.

Currently based at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, the group is assigned as one of two operations groups of the 23d Wing at Moody. Both organizations serve as part of the Ninth Air Force and Air Combat Command. The 23d Fighter Group's primary missions are forward air control, close air support, air interdiction and CSAR (Combat Search & Rescue Operations).

The group has two operational squadrons assigned: the 74th and the 75th Fighter Squadrons both flying A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft.

USAF 71st ARRS Patch Set

USAF 71st Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron / Arctic Rescue Squadron Patch Set
Beautiful patch set and pretty rare! Nice hard to find baseball cap patch and subdued version of the original squadron patch.

The 71st Rescue Squadron maintains combat-ready status as the last active duty Lockheed HC-130P Combat King, combat search and rescue squadron. The squadron deploys expeditionary forces to execute personnel recovery operations worldwide to support theater commanders to advance national security interests. This mission requires the squadron to conduct low-level operations and air refueling using night vision goggles and airdrop pararescue personnel of other units for in support of combat personnel recovery.

The 71st was first activated in November 1952 when Air Rescue Service expanded its existing air rescue squadrons to groups and expanded their flights to separate squadrons. It flew search, rescue and recovery missions out of Elmendorf Air Force Base from 1952–1960 and 1970-1991. It has flown aerial refueling missions for search and rescue operations since 1991.

The squadron has supported the combat search and rescue mission in Southwest Asia with aircraft and crews since 1992. In August 2014, the 71st completed its last deployment with the HC-130P Combat King aircraft, which it has flown since 2003. This was the last deployment by an active duty squadron with the Combat King model. The squadron is now beginning to transition to the HC-130J Combat King II by September 2015.

USAF 351st BATS Challenge Coin

USAF 351st Battlefield Airmen Training Squadron / Challenge Coin
Directly from Kirtland AFB, NM from the latest PJ/CRO Class, this amazing coin was kindly donated by the legendary PJ Chipper W. for the collection. HooYah!

The coin is the instructor's coin for PJ Instructors at the "Superman School". This authentic coin is the coloured version and there's also a subdued version.

The 351st Battlefield Airman Training Squadron was activated in June 14, 2016 at a ceremony held in Kirtland AFB and the Air Force said goodbye to Detachment 1 of the 342nd Training Squadron, which was deactivated.

The new squadron houses the USAF Pararescue and Combat Rescue Officer School and is responsible for training, mentoring and developing battlefield Airmen in land warfare and technical recovery skills. It is one of four new squadrons that will report directly to the Battlefield Airmen Training Group, which activated June 2 and is solely dedicated to training the Air Force's tactical ground component in technical rescue.

You can help to publish Yankee Air Pirates III

François Millard and Olivier Bizet are the authors of a book series called Yankee Air Pirates, about USAF uniforms, patches and equipment of the Vietnam War.

Volume 1 has a long chapter about Rescue units (including their equipment, uniforms, party suits, patches...). The third and final book will not be published if the sales of the first two volumes do not increase. This is a really hard work these guys made from their own pockets to publish this unique and amazing book. You can you help to get the third edition of this book out on the streets. A "must have" guidebook for serious collectors!

See the link HERE.
