Sikorsky Rescue Award Pin

Sikorsky Rescue Award 10K Gold Pin
This is a rare vintage Sikorsky Helicopter Rescue Award pin awarded to a USAF rescue pilot after WWII who flew in Korea and Vietnam. These are extremely rare and hard to come by as you can imagine. Not sure if it's made of 10K or 14K gold.

Beginning in 1950, the Winged-S Rescue Award is given to pilots and crew who performed a life-saving rescue while flying a Sikorsky Helicopter. To date, more than two million lives around the globe have been saved by extraordinarily courageous men and women who put themselves at risk to save others from mishaps, natural disasters or the threat of enemy action. The award carries the spirit and vision of aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky and honors individuals who directly perform a lifesaving rescue flying a Sikorsky helicopter.

Sikorsky Rescue stats:

-More than 2 million people have been rescued using Sikorsky helicopters since performing the world's first helicopter rescue in 1944.
-1,005 Winged-S Rescue Awards received in 2015.
-3,800 people were rescued using Sikorsky helicopters in 2015.
-Based on rescue award submission info., the 1st Civilian rescue was performed on November 29, 1945 with a Sikorsky R-5.

  1. I was awarded the winged s twice while serving in the Coast Guard between 1972 and 1976. Flew in H-52 out of Elizabeth city, N.C. I have lost both and would love to buy one to add back to my service ribbons. g.waits@yahoo.com

    1. Me as well...awarded one as a Navy SH3 Sea King SAR pilot and wore it on my flight suit...but sadly lost it.
