USAF RESCUE Surf Shop Morale Patch
This patch designed by Col. Mark Deaton was inspired by the famous Ron Jon Surf Shop logo which is a surfer style retail store chain founded in 1959 in Ship Bottom, NJ. Wore by both pilots and PJ's has glow in the dark embroidered thread. It's possibly that has been worn by members of the 301st RQS at Patrick AFB.

This amazing and VERY RARE patch was kindly donated by (Ret.) Col. Mark Deaton who served for over 30 years in the military starting in the Army flying AH-1S Cobras and then commissioned to the Air National Guard flying C-26 and C-5’s.  Later in his career, he switched back to rotary wing in the New York ANG 102nd RQS (converted to 101st RQS). His deployments with the NYANG included Iraq (BIAP) 03 and Kandahar 05’. He later went on active duty with the 56th RQS 06’-09’ participated in Lebanon NEO in 09’. Transferred to AFRES with the 301st RQS from 09’-14’ (including Bastion 11’) and also deployed as an augmenteee to the 55th RQS. for a Kandahar and Bastion rotation 09’/10’. Over his varied career, Col. Deaton also participated in the design of many patches displayed here in the collection.
