USAF CSAR / Operation Northern Watch Challenge Coin

USAF Combat Search & Rescue / Operation Northern Watch Challenge Coin

Operation Northern Watch, the successor to Operation Provide Comfort, was a U.S. European Command Combined Task Force (CTF) charged with enforcing its own no-fly zone above the 36th parallel in Iraq. Its mission began on 1 January 1997.

The coalition partners of the United States, United Kingdom, and Turkey provided approximately 45 aircraft and more than 1,400 personnel to support Operation Northern Watch. The joint U.S. forces of some 1,100 U.S. personnel, included sailors, soldiers, as well as sorties from every arm of the United States Armed Forces.

The original mandate from the Turkish government allowed the operation to continue for six months. Turkey subsequently approved two 6-month extensions, but indicated that it would not become a permanent mission. For the first year of the mission, northern Iraq was quiet, with no combat between Coalition aircraft and Iraqi forces.

USAF SERE School / Bad Guys Patch Set

USAF SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape School) / Bad Guys Patch Set
This is a VERY rare and hard to find patch set from the USAF SERE School. These patches are often being used by the SERE Trainers to simulate ¨The Bad Guys¨ during this specialized and tough training program that most USAF Special Forces, pilots and other armed forces personnel attend.

Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) is a program best known by its military acronym, that provides U.S. military personnel, U.S. Department of Defense civilians and private military contractors with training in evading capture, survival skills and the military code of conduct. Established by the United States Air Force at the end of the Korean War (1950–53), it was extended during the Vietnam War (1959–1975) to the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. Most higher level SERE students are military aircrew and special operations personnel considered being at high risk of capture.

The U.S. Air Force SERE School is located at Fairchild AFB, Washington, while SERE Training for the U.S. Army is located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and at Fort Rucker, Alabama. The Navy and Marine Corps SERE School has two locations: the U.S. Navy Remote Training Site at Warner Springs, California and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.

News: New Pararescue Watch by BALL Watch Inc.

This is the first time ever that a luxury Swiss watchmaker brand such as BALL Watch Co. produces a serious technical time piece named Engineer Hydrocarbon Airborne and dedicated to the USAF Pararescue teams. Can't wait to get mine!

BALL Watch Company is proud of its American heritage and delighted to introduce the new Engineer Hydrocarbon Airborne, designed to withstand the extreme conditions under which US paratroopers operate.

Disorient of balance spring upon shock impact is the most common cause of watch inaccuracy. BALL Engineer Hydrocarbon Airborne features SpringLOCK® – the world’s first revolutionary patented anti-shock system that enhances watch accuracy by reducing balance spring’s shock impact by 66%.

Engineer Hydrocarbon Airborne is equipped with BALL’s new patented SpringLOCK® system. This mechanism has been developed in-house by BALL Watch engineers to guarantee the accuracy of movement upon heavy shock impact. The balance-spring is protected by a "cage" designed to absorb the energy created when the watch is subjected to external impacts. Such impacts can cause standard mechanical movements to vary by up to approximately 60 seconds a day. The SpringLOCK® system reduces their effect by up to 66%, thus ensuring that the caliber remains accurate. Watch wearers can now freely engage in various sporting activities (e.g. golf), knowing that accurate time keeping can still be possible under external shock impacts.

BALL Engineer Hydrocarbon Airbone meets the strongest specifications of USAF Pararescue team. Its case back is embossed with USAF Paraescue’s logo. This special airborne unit of the US Air Force is responsible for rescuing and providing medical assistance to soldiers involved in military operations on the ground. The engraving also features the USAF Pararescue’s famous motto: "That others may live."

The Engineer Hydrocarbon Airborne’s stainless steel case is 42 mm in diameter and houses an ETA 2836-2 self-winding movement. The accuracy of this caliber has been certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). When designing this timepiece, BALL Watch Company once again applied its pioneering process of combining ceramic with luminescent paint to create the bezel. As a result, the digits and markers on the bezel are luminescent, allowing the wearer to read the watch in the dark. The ceramic also makes the bezel highly resistant to corrosion, scratching and UV rays.

The Engineer Hydrocarbon Airborne is equipped with a tapered stainless steel bracelet fitted with BALL’s patented triple folding buckle. Its extension system allows the wearer to easily adjust the bracelet to fit their wrist, even over clothing such as a paratrooper’s uniform. Instead of a traditional presentation box, this new chronometer comes in a hard-wearing case with an additional rubber strap.
