USAF Jolly 51 / Memorial Patch

USAF Jolly 51 / Memorial Patch
Possibly made in Korea

On March 15, 2018 an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter struck a galvanized steel cable after the pilot misinterpreted aircraft navigation displays, causing him to overfly the intended destination. The aircraft instead descended into an unplanned location where it struck the roughly half-inch thick cables hanging between two 341-foot high towers. The Pave Hawk’s main rotor assembly became entangled in the cables, resulting in catastrophic damage and an unflyable condition making the aircraft impact in an uninhabited desert area, according to an Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Board.

Three flight crew members and four Pararescue airmen were killed in the crash. Captain Mark Weber, Master Sgt. William Posch, Staff Sgt. Carl Enis, Master Sgt. Christopher Raguso and the rest of the Jolly 51 crew who were killed in the accident near Al Qaim, Anbar Province, Iraq. Posch and Enis were assigned to the 308th Rescue Squadron while Weber was to the 38th RQS. The other four members were from the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing, Capt. Andreas O’Keefe, Capt. Christopher Zanetis, Master Sgt. Christopher Raguso, and Staff Sgt. Dashan Briggs.

USAF 33rd RQS / Jolly Green / Green Feet / OD Patch

USAF 33rd RQS / Jolly Green Feet / Green Feet / OD Patch

The bird on the 33rd RQS patch belongs to 18th Wing and it's is a fighting cock, symbolizing courage, aggressiveness, and confidence. Gamecocks have long held a reputation for being tenacious creatures. The sport of cockfighting dates back to 500 B.C., when men wagered entire inheritances on the inflamed birds, known to fight to the death. The fierce cockfights were outlawed in many countries due to the barbaric nature of the event.

The "fight until you prevail" reputation of the gamecocks made them a perfect representation of a fighting unit when the 18th Pursuit Group Commander, Maj. Carlyle H. Walsh, first chose the cock for the unit's emblem in the late 1920s. 18th Wing Emblem: A fighting cock with wings displayed sable wattled and combed gules.

Crest: On a wreath and sable, two wings conjoined with displayed tenne.
Significance: The fighting cock signifies courage, aggressiveness, and confidence qualities characteristic of the organization. The emblem was officially approved on 21 February 1931.

Motto: Unguibus Et Rostro ("With Talons and Beak")

USAF 303rd ERQS / HOA - PRTF 2018 Patch

USAF 303rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron / Shadow Warrior / Horn of Africa / Personnel Recovery Task Force / HH-60G / 2018

CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti - Members of the 22nd Airlift Squadron from Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and members of the new 303rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron here unload one of three HH-60 helicopters from a C-5 Galaxy. The squadron is replacing Heavy Marine Helicopter 464th Detachment A, the last of several Marine detachments that have handled the mission here in the past 10 years. The arrival of the 303rd ERQS will better equip Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa for personnel recovery due to the HH-60's capabilities. This is one more tool CJTF-HOA uses to be the preferred security partner of choice in an increasingly secure, stable, and developing East Africa.
