In memory of the Jolly 51 crew lost on March 18, 100% of profits go to "That Others May Live Foundation" which provides immediate tragedy assistance critical support, and scholarships for the families of U.S. Air Force Rescue Heroes who are killed or severely wounded.
On March 16, 2018 the tragic loss of Jolly 51 struck the USAF rescue family. An accident involving an HH-60G Pave Hawk during low-level operations near the Syrian border took the lives of seven heroes. The combat rescue unit deployed was a mix of different rescue units combined because that's how they roll. Because of the manning and operations tempo they've been doing more with less for years even before 911 they've been supporting that area providing the best combat rescue capability and bringing young soldiers back to their families with a variety of rescue skill sets. This rare and hard to find heritage 56th HMU patch who is part of the 56th Rescue Squadron / 48th Operations Group / 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath, UK. The 56th RQS flu Search and Rescue support to the Iceland Defend Force from May 1988 to September 2006. The 56th RQS will relocate to Aviano air base in Italy starting 2018. This 56th HMU Björgunarsveitin (Rescue) team patch reflects back to the days when the 56th RQS patch was at the station at Naval Air Station in Keflavík, Iceland. Really hard to find patch set. UK made in very small quantities.

The 48th Operations Group (Tail Code: LN) consists of three flying squadrons of F-15C/D/E aircraft capable of accomplishing fighter operations worldwide and one operations support squadron. Prepares aircrew and support personnel to accomplish USAFE, U.S. European Command and NATO war plans and contingency operations (including SAR/CSAR operations). Provides equipment, training, scheduling, analysis, weather, intelligence, standardization and evaluation, and command and control for an efficient flying operation. The rescue elements of the 48th OG are the 56th Rescue Squadron and 57th Rescue Squadron.
The 56th Rescue Squadron (RQS) is a combat-ready Search & Rescue squadron of HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters capable of executing all-weather search and rescue missions day or night in hostile environments in support of USAFE, USEUCOM, and NATO operations. It employs a state-of-the-art communications and navigation system along with advanced search and rescue equipment. The squadron is capable of deploying to any theater of operations in the world. The 57th Rescue Squadron (RQS) is a combat-ready squadron of pararescue personnel capable of performing combat rescue and personnel retrieval missions anytime & anywhere in theaters of operations worldwide.

In April 1944, TSgt Ed "Murphy" Hladovcak of the 1st Air Commandos, piloting a Stinson L-1 Vigilant with three wounded British soldiers on board, was forced down over 100 miles (160 km) behind Japanese lines, 15 miles (25 km) west of Mawlu, Burma. Deep in the jungle where an airplane could not land, unable to hike out because of the injured passengers, and with ground-rescue forces days away, the downed men hid from nearby Japanese soldiers.
The China-Burma-India "Hump" airlift operation was the theater for what was probably the first use of a helicopter in a combat rescue. A newly-delivered Army Sikorsky YR-4B helicopter, piloted by Lt. Carter Harmon, with a 175-horsepower engine, was dispatched to try a rescue. In the heat and humidity of Burma, the YR-4B could carry only one passenger at a time, straining its engine past the redline just to lift off. Despite these difficulties, over the two day period 25-26 April 1944, four trips were made in and out to a secure location where the men could safely transfer to a Stinson L-5 Sentinel. The final hasty liftoff was accomplished just as shouting soldiers burst from the jungle. As Lt. Harmon learned later, the soldiers were not Japanese, but an Allied land rescue party that had finally reached the crash site. The great success of the mission encouraged the advocates of helicopters, but few other missions actually took place during WW II. In China during the final months of the war, Sikorsky R-6As provided search and rescue services.
