USAF 3rd Air Rescue Group / Headquarters Lapel Pin
Stamped "Japan" on the back. Circa 1950/3, screw back with nice enamel Pararescue "That Others May Live" Guardian Angel logo in the center of the pin. The photo does not do the pin justice. A rare piece of early Pararescue heraldry.
The 3rd Air Rescue Group, activated in 1952, earned two Presidential Unit Citations and two Korean Presidential Unit Citations in the Korean Conflict before being deactivated in 1957. Reactivated in 1966 at Tan Son Nhut Airport in Vietnam as the 3rd Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Group, the unit went on to earn four Presidential Unit Citations, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Combat "V," and two Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses with Palm before being inactivated a second time in 1976. The 563rd Rescue Group now holds the lineage of the 3rd Air Rescue Group.
